Ask for a written agreement that states the rent, how often it is paid (monthly or quarterly), the deposit, notice periods, who is responsible for repairs, and the condition of the property when you move in. Uganda's Landlord and Tenant Act, 2022 sets out rights and duties for both sides, including the need for written agreements for many tenancies.
Agree in writing how much deposit you pay and when it will be refunded. Always get a receipt for every payment — by mobile money, bank or in writing.
Walk through the house with the landlord on moving day and note any damage, with photos. This protects your deposit when you leave.
